We are fast approaching some important enrollment dates for the citizens of the United States – both in Medicare and Federal Healthcare Reform. Here are the dates you need to keep in mind any Medicare recipient wishing to make changes to his or her coverage must do so during this time frame.

Medicare October 1, 2013: Medicare Marketing Begins October 15, 2013: Annual Open Enrollment Period Begins December 15, 2013: Annual Open Enrollment Period Ends January 1, 2014: Effective Date of Medicare Changes and Medicare Policies with No Changes |
ACA (Federal Healthcare Reform) October 1, 2013: Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) January 1, 2014: 1st Effective Date for ACA Policies March 31, 2014: End of IEP

Any Medicare recipient wishing to make changes to his or her coverage must do so during this time frame. |
This is the beginning of enrollment for the new Affordable Care Act (ACA), also called Federal Healthcare Reform or “Obamacare” – Employer Small Groups (under 50 employees) and Individuals |
This includes changes from a Medicare Supplement policy to a Medicare Advantage policy and vise-versa. |
Everyone without current federally –approved medical coverage is required to enroll in the ACA plans for a January 1st, 2014 effective date. |
During the AEP (Annual Enrollment Period), a Medicare recipient may change insurance companies which offer Medicare supporting products at this time, as well. |
Small Employer Business Groups will be allowed to take advantage of Small Business Tax Credits, if they enroll their groups through the Insurance Marketplace or “Exchange.” Currently, there are no fines in place for groups of under 50 Full-time Equivalent (FTE) employees. |
For individuals who are not enrolled in an Employer-Sponsored, approved Group Health Insurance plan , a government plan (such as Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, etc.) or are deemed as a “hardship” case are required to have a plan in place by January 1, 2014. |

Those who do not enroll by the end of the IEP (Initial Enrollment Period) which is 10/01/2013–03/31/2013, will be assessed (the greater of) $95 per household adult, ½ per household child or 1% percent of the househo |
